MJAsher came into being in 2007 after many years of mentoring with some of the most skilled craftsmen. My carpentry education began with my father. From the time I was able to hold a hammer I was in the thick of the action, helping wherever I could. I spent many hours tinkering and creating in our workshop after getting inspiration from one of the PBS building shows or from my dad. Industrial arts and design have been part of my studies from high school all the way through University. I spent all of my summers working with my fathers contracting company and other tradesmen. I moved to Alaska in 2001 where I was taken under the wing of some of the most talented craftsmen I have ever worked with. During my time in Alaska I honed my skill and learn many more.
In 2007 I decided to try go into business for myself. Becoming independent allowed greater use of my skills along with more input on design. Working more closely with the clients, listening to what they want and working within their budgets is important to me.
I have built up a network of trusted tradespeople so that I can count on them providing the same quality of work and accountability as I provide.
My passion is taking and idea and creating a tangible object from it. I thrive on problem solving and troubleshooting. I love what I do and that can be seen in the work that I do.
I am always willing to incorporate alternative and unusual materials into projects while maintaining a strong foundation in quality workmanship.
